Dr. Jan Böttcher

 

Jan obtained his diploma degree in Molecular Biomedicine from the University of Bonn in 2008. He then was awarded a postgraduate fellowship from the graduate school LIMES – Chemical Biology and conducted his PhD in Immunology, studying T cell immunity and memory in the context of liver inflammation. After receiving his PhD (summa cum laude) in 2013, Jan joined Caetano Reis e Sousa’s group at the Francis Crick Institute, where he was awarded a Marie Sklodowska-Curie postdoctoral fellowship to study anti-cancer immunity by dendritic cells and innate lymphocytes.
In 2017, Jan was awarded funding from the Elite Network of Bavaria to form his independent Junior Research Group at the IMI. Starting in 2018, the Junior Research Group led by Jan focuses on the mechanisms that control immunity to cancer within tumour microenvironments, with the aim to develop new strategies for cancer immunotherapy.
